Visa requirements
Canadian Citizens travelling to Brazil are required to submit a visa application in person or through the mail. The Embassy will assist people residing in the National Capital Region, this being our consular jurisdiction. Residents of other locations should contact the one of our Consulates in Montreal or Toronto. The Consulate General in Montreal has jurisdiction over the provinces of Québec (except localities at the National Capital Region), Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Nunavut. The Consulate General in Toronto has jurisdiction over the provinces of Ontario (except localities at the National Capital Region), Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, The Northwestern and Yukon Territories.

For tourist trips to Brazil – includes visit to relatives and or friends, unpaid participation in athletic or artistic events, competitions and unpaid participation in a scientific/academic seminar or conference sponsored by a research or academic institution.

Brazilian nationals must enter and leave Brazil with their Brazilian passport only, even if they hold another country’s passport. Children of Brazilian citizens must also bear a Brazilian passport when traveling to Brazil. Check details and conditions to apply for a Brazilian passport.


Terms and conditions:

a) tourist visa holders are prohibited to engage in business, work, or academic activities in Brazil ;

b) First arrival in Brazil must take place within 90 days from the date the visa was issued;

c) Tourist visa is good for multiple entries, yet authorized stays are for a maximum of 90 days per visit (if necessary, an extension may be obtained with the Federal Police in Brazil and must be requested prior to the expiration of the authorized stay);

d) Citizens of some countries (click to see list) do not require a visa to visit Brazil for strictly tourism purposes, provided the stay does not exceed 90 days;

Requirements:

1) One visa application form per applicant (Download here: Word_Format or RTF_Format), properly filled out (first and second pages) and duly signed, together with the following documentation:

a) Passport with a minimum remaining validity of six months (it must also have at least 2 blank pages available for visa stamp);
-
b) One recent passport type photograph 5cmx7cm ( 2”x 3”) of applicant, front view in white background. Snapshots and computer pictures are not accepted. Please glue or staple the photograph on the form as indicated;

c) Signed letter by travel agency with the booking of the trip and dates or print out of the booking with dates;

d) For applicants under 18 years of age, both parents must sign the application form in the presence of the Consular officer. If applying by mail or through a third party they must present a letter of consent (authorizing visa request) signed by both parents or legal guardians and duly notarized;

e) If minors travel to Brazil unaccompanied by parents check requirements for an authorization for minors to travel;

f) For non-Canadians returning to Canada, copy of Permanent Resident Card or valid Canadian visa allowing for re-entry into Canada;

g) For non-Canadians without a Permanent Resident card or valid Canadian visa, valid visa to country of final destination after trip to Brazil (this requirement does not apply to applicants returning to country of citizenship);


h) As applicable (i.e., for participation in athletic or artistic event/competition or for participation in scientific/academic seminar/conference ), copy of letter by sponsors with detailed information on the event and conditions of attendance;


i) Yellow fever vaccination certificate, as applicable, i.e., if applicant traveled within the last 90 days to any of the following countries: Angola, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Colombia, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, French Guiana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Tanzania, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda or Venezuela. Please note that yellow fever vaccination is advisable if applicant's destination in Brazil includes any of the following States or regions: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Federal District, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, Tocantins, south of Piauí, west and south of Bahia, north of Espírito Santo, northwest of São Paulo, west of Paraná, west of Santa Catarina and west of Rio Grande do Sul.

j) As applicable, polio vaccination certificate (only for children between the ages of 3 months and 6 years).

2) Tourist Visa fee: The consular fee for a tourist visa for Canadian national is of Cnd $117,00 (applications by mail: Cnd $ 117.00 + Cnd $18,00 = Cnd $135.00; plus a pre-paid and self-addressed envelope; see detailed instructions below), which must be paid by money order or certified cheque to the “Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto”. Cash or personal cheques will not be accepted.

For other countries requiring visa to Brazil, the fee is Cnd $36.00, except for the following countries:


a) Australia –Cnd $63.00;
b) Japan – Cnd $90.00;
c) Mexico – Cnd $54.00;
d) Nigeria – Cnd $72,00;
e) Russia – Cnd $90.00; and
f) United States of America – visa is gratis, but there is an administrative fee of Cnd $234.00 due to reciprocity.

Third party: The Consulate will accept visa submissions by a third party other than the applicant. In this case an extra fee of Cnd $18,00 (eighteen dollars) must be added. Both fees can be paid with only one money order (117.00 + 18.00 = Cnd $135.00).


APPLICATIONS BY MAIL

The same requirements above apply plus a pre-paid and self-addressed envelope (only Canada Post ?Xpresspost?, ?Priority Courier? or ?Registered Mail? will be accepted) and a processing fee of Cnd $18,00 per person (money order or certified cheque payable to the Consulate-General of Brazil in Toronto, in the total amount of Cnd $ 135.00).


PROCESSING TIME:

The processing time for a tourist visa is of 10 (ten) working days, not included the days used by the services provided by Canada Post. Urgent cases will be analyzed by the Consulate; and will be accommodated within its possibilities WITHOUT ANY EXTRA FEES, as usual. It is important that urgent cases be presented personally or by the applicant’s company or even through mail. The Consulate will not recognize urgency when presented through a third party. The Consulate cannot recommend travel/visa services firms and makes it clear that all of them receive same treatment by the Visa Section of this Consulate.

Visa entries and validity: The Consulate will always issue tourist visas with multiple entries. The tourist visa validity normally is of 5 years from first entry in Brazil for Canadian and American passport holders. Passport holders of other nationalities will be granted visas with validities that vary from 90 days to 5 years according to the reciprocity policy and at the Consulate’s discretion. The first entry in Brazil will have to be within 90 days of the issuance of the visa.
